Windy City Times Internships announcement
Jobs and Opportunities, NewsWindy City Times will have four paid internships for writers available this fall as part of a new journalism education initiative, “Training the Next Generation of LGBTQ Journalists and Storytellers,” in partnership with the Field Foundation.
The internship runs September through December 2021; the four-month internship will pay a monthly stipend of $1,000. Interns must commit to about 15-20 hours a week.
Interns will receive training from Windy City Times editorial staff and community stakeholders in reporting on communities of color as well as other marginalized members of the city’s LGBTQ+ population. Participants will be expected to complete regular assignments from WCT staff and to attend training sessions—some virtual, some in person.
By the completion of the internship, the writers will have the necessary tools to conduct in-depth reporting, construct human-interest stories and cover mainstream stories—all through an LGBTQ+-centered lens, looking at systemic inequities facing LGBTQ+ people. The internships are open to any journalist or journalism student (graduate or undergraduate) with an interest in reporting on BIPOC and marginalized LGBTQ+ community members. Interested person should send their resumes and a cover letter to andrew@windycitymediagroup.com by 5 p.m. at Aug. 23, 2021.
