In These Times, a national, independent, nonprofit, monthly magazine and website based in Chicago, is hiring a full-time development assistant. Since 1976, we have covered movements for social, racial, economic and environmental justice, and sought to expand the boundaries of the politically possible. Every month, In These Times reaches 40,000 subscribers and 500,000 web readers.

Author and historian James Weinstein founded In These Times in 1976 with the mission ​“to identify and clarify the struggles against corporate power now multiplying in American society.” Through nine presidential administrations, In These Times has adhered to the historical understanding that to succeed political movements need their own media to inform, educate, orient and inspire their members.

In These Times’ development assistant is primarily responsible for managing the weekly acknowledgment of gifts and assuring that all types of donations are properly entered into our donor database (eTapestry).The development assistant will also manage donor records within eTapestry, ensuring all data is clean and up-to-date for pulling fundraising reports. Additional duties will include conducting development research and assisting with mailings, promotions and events.As an integral member of In These Times’ fundraising team, the development assistant will gain experience in nonprofit development and administration. Their efforts will help In These Times strengthen relationships with our readers and supporters.

REQUIREMENTS

• Undergraduate degree
• Proficiency or ability to quickly learn eTapestry, Raiser’s Edge or other donor management databases
• Experience with data analysis
• Advanced Excel and Google Suites experience
• Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
• Ability to independently manage projects
• Creative problem solving
• Exceptional interpersonal skills
• Interest in event planning
• General understanding of nonprofit development and administration
