Deputy Editor
Jobs and Opportunities, NewsIn These Times, a national, independent, nonprofit, monthly magazine and website based in Chicago, is hiring a deputy editor. Since 1976, we have covered movements for social, racial, economic and environmental justice, and sought to expand the boundaries of the politically possible. Every month, In These Times reaches 40,000 subscribers and 500,000 web readers.
Author and historian James Weinstein founded In These Times in 1976 with the mission “to identify and clarify the struggles against corporate power now multiplying in American society.” Through nine presidential administrations, In These Times has adhered to the historical understanding that to succeed political movements need their own media to inform, educate, orient and inspire their members.
Working with the executive editor, the deputy editor will be responsible for shaping and implementing the magazine’s big-picture editorial strategy. The deputy editor reports to the executive editor and supervises a four-person editorial team.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable editing a variety of stories, including hard news, long-form features, opinion and cultural commentary. Applicants with three-year’s experience preferred.
This is a full-time, Chicago-based position, with a salary range of $60,000 to $70,000, based on experience.
