NABJ and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, LLC (“CZI”) are launching an initiative to support Black-owned media companies’ coverage of COVID-19 and Education. The initiative’s goal is to generate and/or aggregate local enterprise, investigative and public affairs stories that are potentially life-saving for Black communities. NABJ and CZI are awarding grants to Black-owned media companies and freelance journalists to achieve that goal.

NABJ seeks an independent contractor to serve as the Project Coordinator to support the initiative.

• Initiative term: February – December 2021
• Fee to contractor: $20,000
• Approximate time commitment: 15 hours per week

Scope of Work

• Collaborate with CZI Project Manager

• Provide appropriate news releases regarding project

• Manage deliverables, including:

I. Developing and managing grant application process

II. Vetting grant applicants

III. Managing ongoing communication with grantees

IV. Ensuring grantee work products (editorials, columns, stories, etc.) are delivered

V. Marketing services (managed by NABJ)
