NewsNABJ President Dorothy Tucker and NABJ Sports Task Force Chair A. Sherrod Blakely issued the following statements today:
“NABJ is saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and the other individuals aboard who are no longer with us. We extend our prayers and condolences to the Bryant family, friends, past teammates and business colleagues who were impacted by Mr. Bryant’s life and legacy. We also send our thoughts to the NABJ members and other journalists who got to know Bryant well while covering their beats. Bryant was not only an NBA and sports legend, but he was a passionate storyteller. His work through Granity Studios emphasized the importance of Black media entrepreneurs and their ability to bring diverse perspectives. He provided a platform for writers, producers and illustrators to use their talents to inspire the next generations.” – NABJ President Dorothy Tucker
“We at the NABJ Sports Task Force are like so many fans across the globe trying to come to grips, but still stunned and numbed by the news of the helicopter accident that claimed the life of basketball icon Kobe Bryant. The NABJ Sports Task Force offers its heartfelt condolences to Vanessa Bryant, as well as the other families impacted by this tragedy.” – A. Sherrod Blakely, NABJ Sports Task Force Chair
