More than 125 journalists and professionals gathered at Chicago’s Per.So.Na Lounge on December 12 for NABJ Chicago Chapter’s 12th Annual Holiday Party. Guests enjoyed light bites, mingled and danced to celebrate the holidays and to raise money for scholarships.

In addition of dining and dancing, the annual auction drew large participation. Hosted by Comedian Cody Wilkins, with assistance from board members Brandon Pope and Tony Smith, guests were able to bid on items ranging from a Carnival cruise and overnight stay at Palmer House to White Sox/Blackhawks tickets and a season pass to Ravinia.
The most coveted items, of course, were the signature photographs donated by the award-winning photojournalists featured in NABJCC’s October forum, “Pioneering Journalists of Color: Turning A Lens on History” — NABJ Hall of Famer Bob Black, Pulitzer Prize-winner Ovie Carter and trailblazing Ebony photographer Howard Simmons.
A Michael Jackson impersonator also wowed the room, performing some of the King of Pop’s greatest hits.
This year’s toy drive recipient was Habilitative Systems, Inc., a West Side nonprofit providing foster care, housing, substance abuse and other supports to low-income families, and NABJ Chicago was proud to bless their kids in need again this year! Funds raised from event ticket and auction donations from attendees and supporters will help NABJ Chicago Chapter continue the organization’s mission of scholarship and service.
