Ald. Sophia King Releases Announcement On Ebony/Jet Building
Ald. Sophia King (4th) released this announcement on the Johnson Company Building:
In light of the historic landmark designation bestowed onto the Johnson Company Publishing Building (820 S. Michigan Avenue) in November of 2017, the Alderman is planning to submit a resolution honoring the Johnson family at March’s City Council. The building was the longtime home to the famous Ebony and Jet magazines and is the only high rise building in downtown Chicago designed by an African- American, Mr. John Warren Moutoussamy. The tower features a stoic brutalist interior and was known for its interior colors during its magazine heyday. The family whose name the tower bears has an equal amount of historic achievements. The resolution will be read at March’s City Council on the 28th.
