Job Duties

• The Editorial lead of this section would be responsible for setting the editorial agenda of NBC BLK on a weekly basis – working closely with the Senior News Editors of NBCNews.com and the Identities Editor of NBCNews.com.
• The Editorial lead would identify and pitch breaking news, top news and enterprise pieces of particular interest to the black community.
• The leader of this section would write, produce (in our CMS), edit and oversee the publication of about two to three original pieces a week, in addition to a handful of news stories every week.
• This lead would also work on longterm projects and planning with the Special Projects and Planning Editor of NBCNews.com.
• The leader of this section would work with in-house reporters, but should also come with a rolodex of freelance writers and producers with solid experience writing about black culture and about stories and issues that deeply impact and resonate with black communities.
• This leader would also work with the Enterprise Digital video team to produce both culture pieces and digital docs.
• The leader would run NBC BLK’s social media presence and should have general audience awareness of the site to drive traffic and audience loyalty.
• The leader would cultivate editorial relationships with content partners, within and outside of NBC News.
• The leader should be able to manage rights of licensed content and ensure published content meets rights and contractual agreements.

• 8 + years experience in journalism
• 1+ years in an editorial leadership capacity, ideally within a commercial environment.
• Exceptional leadership skills and able to act as ‘player/coach’ with the team. A collaborator who can work easily across a large organization
• Experience producing creative and innovative quality video. Ideally has worked within or around a TV news organization.
• Deep understanding of the changing digital media landscape in all its forms. Passionate and curious about “what’s next” in digital and proactively pushes the organization to anticipate and meet news digital consumers’ needs.
• Be able to manage a budget and represent the needs of the team internally
• Proven ability to partner with product, technology and sales to deliver compelling and competitive digital productsAdditional Job Requirements
