(Chicago, IL) NABJ-Chicago Chapter was in the house for the kickoff of the Goodman Theatre’s 2017-18 season.
Chapter members were among those attending the opening of Goodman’s “A View From the Bridge” production on Sept. 18.
We saw Ian Bedford star as Brooklyn longshoreman Eddie Carbone, who welcomes his immigrant cousins to America, and becomes jealous of one of them who falls for the teenage niece over whom Carbone obsesses.
Carbone’s betrayal of his illegal immigrant cousin has disastrous consequences. Belgian-born director Ivo van Hove has described the work as a tragedy, and as I watched the play, it felt akin to witnessing a car accident about to happen.
Showing in the Albert Theatre, the Young Vic Theatre Tony award-winning production of the Arthur Miller drama runs through Oct. 15.
