The Chicago Tribune is seeking a sports content editor to help connect our digital sports audience to our outstanding sports coverage. A strong editor will help to increase traffic to the site and engage our audience.
Responsibilities
A sports content editor is responsible for curating the sports pages on chicagotribune.com, promoting the work on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, writing strong headlines, alerting readers with push notification from several segments, crafting the daily sports newsletter, and working with reporters and other editors on breaking news, daily stories as well as longer features.
This candidate will work 5 shifts, including on the weekends — an untapped market for the sports department.
Qualifications
The ideal person for this role will have
— A strong work ethic
— A keen knowledge of the Chicago sports scene and what our Audience needs to know
— An understanding of the value metrics plays in our daily and long-term decision making
— The ability and eagerness to work in breaking news situation and see the entire picture
— A collaborative spirit
— The ability to follow a digital road map set by the sports editor
— A minimum of 5 years of newsroom experience, preferably in a primary digital role
— Editing experience for stories, headlines, social media and podcasts
— A strong knowledge of the Chicago sports landscape and industry trends
— A willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays as necessary
— Experience with all social media platforms
