About “U.S. Civil Rights Trail”

Deborah D. Douglas, award-winning journalist, Eugene S. Pulliam Distinguished Visiting Professor of Journalism at DePauw University and senior leader with The OpEd Project, discusses her new book, “U.S. Civil Rights Trail: A Traveler’s Guide to the People, Places and Events That Made the Movement” (Moon Travel, 2021). This first-ever guide covering the official civil rights trail presents a vivid glimpse into the story of Black America’s fight for freedom and equality.

From eye-opening landmarks to celebrations of triumphs over adversity, Douglas takes readers on a journey highlighting historic sights, cultural perspectives and insights from icons/activists, with detailed coverage of: Charleston, Atlanta, Selma to Montgomery, Birmingham, Jackson, the Mississippi Delta, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Raleigh, Durham, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Douglas is a 2019 Studs Terkel Award winner and founding managing editor of MLK50: Justice Through Journalism.
