Presented by the Chicago Headline Club, FOIA Fest is an annual conference featuring panels and workshops dedicated to educating reporters and community members about public records. From cub reporters to seasoned vets, community organizers to everyday residents, FOIAFest helps equip attendees with tools needed to better understand and use public records for impactful investigations and everyday life. Most of this year’s panels will prioritize using public records for the purposes of uncovering systemic injustice.

This year’s conference is headlined by keynote speaker and NABJ Member Ron Nixon, the acclaimed global investigations editor for the Associated Press. Nixon, who previously served as a homeland security correspondent for the New York Times, has mastered the use of public records in reporting throughout his distinguished career, which has featured stops in Mexico, Rwanda, Senegal, Nigeria and Belgium
