NABJ-Chicago Annual Meeting – “The George Floyd Conversation”

June 17, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

NABJ-Chicago will dedicate its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, to “The George Floyd Conversation” amongst its members.

The event, to be held 6-8 PM, via Zoom, is the chapter’s first General Membership Meeting since going on hiatus in March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NABJCC resumed business in May, planning its first event, a contribution to NABJ’s Black Male Media Project held annually nationwide on June 6, just as the horrific killing of Floyd at the knee of a Minneapolis police officer and its turbulent aftermath unfolded.

Amidst the protests against police brutality, ensuing riots and renewed spotlight on racism — including bias at the nation’s media outlets — NABJCC’s Board of Directors decided to dedicate our Annual Meeting to “The George Floyd Conversation.”

Set by our constitution to be held each May, the Annual Meeting requires elections (2020 is not an election year), reports from the President, Treasurer and committees, and statement on dues (which remain the same). With gatherings still prohibited in May, the meeting was postponed, now being held via Zoom.

After the business portion, NABJCC plans a “family gathering” discussion of Floyd’s death and the impact, hearing from as many members as time permits, on perspectives and experiences from the turbulent past two weeks.

Under a partnership with the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, with a dual goal of assisting a restaurant/bar sector struggling under closings due to coronavirus, NABJCC members attending the conversation will receive a $25 gift card for take-out “comfort food” + drinks at three Chicago locations. That’s right. Get your meal. Sit back. Join the family.

Limited to Current Dues-Paid Members.
